The semester is well underway, you have a busy schedule and the pressure is building… Deadlines creep closer while studying takes up more of your time.
Don’t panic – coping with university study is something you’ll get better at. There’s no magic solution – but the following tips might help…
- Develop your study skills as you go – no one arrives with all the right skills.
- Find out what works for you – there’s no single best way to study.
- Take responsibility for your own learning – plan, organise and work at it.
- Concentrate on understanding what you have been taught – rather than trying to memorise it.
- Work with your classmates – it’s amazing how much you’ll actually know between you.
- Work steadily throughout the semester – ‘cramming’ isn’t a recommended study technique.
- Teach your family and friends – explaining something can help you develop a deeper understanding of it.
- Speak to your lecturers, they’re on your side…don’t be intimidated by them – they want you to succeed.
- Work, rest and play – remember to take breaks.
- Don’t stay stuck – ask for help (from lecturers, other university staff, family or friends).
