From Summer 2016 it will be easier than ever before for Heriot-Watt University students and staff to identify and access library resources from any location and any device.
We are transitioning from the existing system to the market-leading, cloud-based product. Discovery will bring together, for the first time, resources from all of our campus libraries, in Dubai, Malaysia and Scotland, and support searching and access across our global collection. Discovery will fully integrate the functionality of the library catalogue and provide access to one collection across all campuses with equality of provision of electronic resources and supporting access to local print holdings.
Discovery will retain its familiar search functionality while streamlining searching and access to resources, and simplifying authentication to our electronic collections. We will be able to manage and track book orders more efficiently and make informed decisions about stock retention and subscriptions based on improved management reporting.
The new Discovery system is expected to ‘Go Live’ on 30 June 2016.
There will be some disruptions to library services from 15 June and the system may be unavailable between 27th and 29th June.
However we aim to keep any disruptions to a minimum and it will still be possible to borrow paper-based books from the campus libraries and access eResources using the current Discovery system.
