New Year Resolution – Remember your ID card to access the Library #edincampuslib

Please remember to bring your HWU Student ID card in order to access our Edinburgh Campus Library.  

The use of the Library, including the collection and facilities, is governed by the Library Regulations in the University Academic Regulations (Reg No. 11). Access to the Library is managed by use of your HWU Student Card including all resource and room booking transactions. Student Cards should be presented at the security gates on entry/exit and this is a requirement for the security and safety of all Library users.

We understand that occasionally you may forget your card so it is now possible for you to be issued with a Library Day Pass.  You will need to fill in a Student Day Pass form at the Library Service Desk with your details and show an alternative form of ID. You will be issued with a Day Pass which lasts for 24 hours.  A note will be made on your Library record.

If you have lost your card, then please go to the Student Service Centre for a replacement.

Activating ID cards to access the Library – Edinburgh Campus

Starting from Tuesday 23rd April we have been activating student and staff ID cards for entry to the Library.  The entrance gates (turnstiles) have been in place since last year as part of the Library refurbishment but they have been set in offline or local mode.  We are now able, due to additional software, to update the gates to online mode.  This means that only HWU student and staff ID cards will be valid and these cards must be updated at the Library Service Desk.  This process will only take 2 minutes per person.
We will start activating the cards from Tuesday 23rd April while keeping the gates in offline mode to ensure everyone has a chance to enter the Library as usual and bring their card to be activated.  From Monday 6th May, the gates will be changed to online mode and only activated HWU ID cards will allow entry.  We will not refuse entry to the Library for anyone, but would appreciate it if you could come and have your ID card activated as soon as possible.  Your co-operation is appreciated.

I.D. cards needed for entry to the Library – Edinburgh Campus

The entrance area of the Library has been refurbished and now includes access gates.  To enter the Library via the access gates, students and staff will need to use their I.D. cards.

Follow the signs to show which gate to enter or exit and then place your card on the circular reader.  The gate will then open.

ID cards are needed to enter and exit the Library building.
If you need assistance, there are Library staff on hand to help at the Service Desk and there is an intercom next to the gates.
Student cards are available at enrolment and from the Student Service Centre.
Staff cards are available from the Library Service Desk.  Please email ServiceDesk@hw.ac.uk and details will be sent to you.
